Paul vs Mayweather as it happened

After months of build-up, the Paul vs. Mayweather fight is in the books.

The YouTuber had an advantage over Mayweather in terms of both his height and weight, and that was clear from the get-go.

As well as being 34.5 pounds heavier than the five-time world champion, Logan, who weighed in at 189.5 pounds in comparison to Mayweather’s 155 pounds, also towered six inches above the champion boxer. However, it soon became clear that size definitely didn’t matter.

While Paul and Mayweather danced around each other for the first couple of rounds, Logan especially struggled to land a punch. The fight shifted in the second half, as Floyd got down to business with counter-attacks of his own.

As the fight continued Paul continued to struggle to land a punch. However, according to his brother, fellow boxer and YouTuber Jake Paul, the YouTuber was well on his way to victory (a victory would only occur if Logan managed to knockout Mayweather).

It was clear that Mayweather was in control, throwing punches when he felt like it, but despite his clear superiority Logan managed to go the distance and stay in the ring for all eight rounds. In the end, the exhibition fight ultimately finished without a result after the eighth round, with neither side able to strike that pivotal KO blow.

Although the stats for the fight aren’t counted, it is worth noting that Mayweather landed 40% of his punches while Paul only managed to land 13%. According to CBS Sports, the unofficial scorecard was 79-74 to Mayweather.

“He’s better than I thought he was,” Mayweather said in a post-match interview. “He’s a tough, rough competitor. It was good action. Had fun. Good little work. Good guy. I had fun.” Paul added: “I don’t want anyone to tell me anything is impossible. The fact I’m in here with one of the greatest boxers of all time proves the odds can be beat.”

Logan Paul defied the odds to last eight rounds with the 50-0 boxing champ.

Paul vs Mayweather undercard results

Like most pay-per-view boxing events, Logan Paul vs. Floyd Mayweather featured several preliminary fights leading up to the main event.

It boasted some incredible fighters, including former WBC super-middleweight and WBA light-heavyweight champion Badou Jack, former unified light middleweight champion Jarret Hurd, and more.

Jean Pascal, the current WBA (Regular) light-heavyweight champion, was supposed to defend his title against Badou Jack. However, he failed a drug test and was removed from the card, leaving Badou to take on another fighter.

The final list of the schedule was as follows:

  • Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul
  • Badou Jack vs. Dervin Colina
  • Jarret Hurd vs. Luis Arias
  • Chad Johnson vs. Brian Maxwell

Chad Johnson vs. Brian Maxwell

Former NFL star Chad ‘Ochocino’ Johnson started off strong against Brian Maxwell. The wide receiver, who trained with boxing duo Jermell and Jermall Charlo, got some impressive footwork and early jabs in early on, but ultimately paled in comparison to Maxwell.

While Johnson was undoubtedly the celebrity of this match, what Maxwell lacked in notoriety he definitely made up for in credence –  his record includes 2-3 in MMA fights and 0-3 in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship.

As an exhibition fight, there are no official winners, but Maxwell achieved the only knockdown of the fight and floored Johnson in Round 4. For all intents and purposes, it was a draw – but the winner was clear.

  • Maxwell might have missed all 16 jabs he attempted, but he did manage to land 17-of-52 power punches, leading to a 17-68 hit total.

Jarret Hurd vs Luis Arias

In a highly controversial ten-round split decision, Luis Arias (19-2-1, 9 KOs) was ultimately named the winner in his fight against former unified 154-pound champion Jarrett Hurd (24-2, 16 KOs). The win marks the biggest one of Arias’ career so far.

Although time was briefly called in Round 2 and Round 9 due to the growing downpour, the two were pretty evenly matched during the fight, with the final scores coming in at 95-94 for Hurd, and 97-93, 96-93 for Arias.

Badou Jack vs Dervin Colina
